GOOD MORNING: "Showbiz is showing a new stronger image this campaign" --
I wrote on Oct. 22, 1964 -- as the LBJ-Goldwater race headed for the finish
line. And Tuesday evening, that "stronger image" from showbiz-Kerry supporters
was evident well in advance of the party's convention. As it had been for
Clinton campaign fund-raisers, the Ron Burkle (former Harold Lloyd) estate
in Beverly Hills was the site --and the anticipated crowd almost doubled
the anticipation. The result was $3.2 million raised for Kerry, another million
for the Demos' National Committee. They'll need it and more judging by the
start of the Hollywood-like commercials starring George W. Bush already on
the air. Kerry met with the heavy hitters before making his appearance on
the stage built on the Burkle estate. They included Sherry Lansing and Billy
Friedkin, Ron Meyer, Barbra Streisand and Jim Brolin, Jim and Ann Gianopulos,
Chris and Jamie McGurk, Ben Affleck, Quincy Jones, Laurie and Larry David,
Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sharon Stone, Eric Braeden,
Garry Shandling, Rhea and Danny DeVito, Brian Grazer, Arianna Huffington
and Shirley and Saul Turteltaub.
LA TIMES -- APRIL 22, 2006
On Monday, after eight years and seven months of marriage, mega-producer
Brian Grazer filed for a legal separation from his novelist wife, Gigi Levangie
Grazer.
Brian Grazer, 54, is one of the most successful and moneyed producers in Hollywood. His scores of credits include the upcoming "The Da Vinci Code" and the Oscar-winning "A Beautiful Mind," made with his production company partner, director Ron Howard. Grazer is also one of the most colorful characters at the top of the industry food chain, known for his finger-in-a-socket hairdo, nerdy look, restless mind and intense vulnerability. The Da Vinci Code" producer Brian Grazer and his writer wife, Gigi Levangie-Grazer, have split after eight years of marriage.
Grazer filed formal separation papers in Los Angeles Superior Court Monday citing irreconcilable differences and seeking joint custody of their children, Patrick, 2, and Thomas, 6, People magazine reported.
Grazer is a partner with Ron Howard in Imagine Entertainment, which won a best picture Oscar in 2002 for "A Beautiful Mind."
Levangie-Grazer wrote the screenplay for the 1998 Julia Roberts movie "Stepmom" and the 2005 novel "The Starter Wife."
