version: I believe it was
Marianna who said that her mother used to say, when someone
died, that the deceased was "No longer shopping
at the Winn-Dixie." Somehow this morphed into a discussion of supermarket
chains and led to substituting "Piggly-Wiggly" for
Winn-Dixie.
Thus, Marianna (Freegratis) gave us "no longer
shopping at Winn-Dixie", BroSteve gave us the
URL for Piggly-Wiggly, and Mary Beth suggested
"no longer shopping the Pig".
WHAT IS A 'BLIND ITEM'?:
A blind item is a piece of
gossip in which the subjects of the gossip are not identified by name (usually
in order to avoid a libel suit). The answer is sometimes guessed by the group,
other times the answer becomes evident when an incident hits the news, and
most times, we never know the answer, but we sure have fun
guessing.
Our GURU is Konrad, who got the group added to the news servers, and fought most of our battles with the jerks and skeptics...so we show him the utmost respect (although you'll never find him here, he does grown-up stuff).
